Leap of Faith

It's hard to believe it's been almost 2 weeks since my last post. I didn't realize it was that long until I had a handful of friends ask me today when the next post was coming. The pressure!!! But I love to know that there are people enjoying my photography journey and pictures. Typically, I have loose ideas in my head for what I would like to write about. Then over the course of the week things happen; I have an interesting conversation with someone or a memorable shoot and VOILA...I am ready to write! Lastly, a good sappy CD and a tin of ketchup Pringles inevitably gets me ready for a night of blogging and picture posting.

A leap of faith. This is what I am giving thanks for this week.  This is what so many of you have done for me over the past 6 months.  You put your trust in me to take photos of your little ones before you even knew if I was worth giving the chance to.  I saw Paige's Mom this weekend and gave her the completed disc of pictures. There was my lightbulb moment. She put her blind trust in me to capture Paige's early moments. She abandoned her previous picture plans and went on a referral to have me take her photos.  That spoke loudly to me.  There could be no bigger compliment.

Then it got me thinking back 6 months just after I left my corporate gig.  I approached numerous friends and families about taking Christmas photos for their cards.  My dear friend, Joe Ann, was one of those people. I met Joe Ann four years ago at the dance studio our girls attend. I knew the instant I met her that I wanted to be friends with her (Joe's very swanky GUESS purse might have had something to do with it -shallow I know).
Joe had already purchased Christmas cards that would fit a 4X6 photo that had yet to be taken. Without knowing if I could really do much outside of turning the camera on - she stashed the cards away for another year and came over with her two beautiful children for pictures in the snow.  Needless to say, 3 of the pictures made the cover of her 2008 Christmas cards! It is the leap of faith that Joe Ann and so many others have made that has given life to my dream. The photos are far from perfect - each time I look at them I see where I could improve next time (oh and the editing - curse curse). But to those friends, family members and new clients I will be meeting for the first time over the next few weeks... thank you for giving me this chance. Your trust in me and my ability to deliver you "One for the Wall" makes my journey worthwhile.

And....HAPPY BIRTHDAY today to Joe Ann!! I look forward to our summer shoot!!

  1. I love this post! I feel the same way about my clients. And the results of a shoot are immeasurably better when you have the trust of your subjects. You are doing so well already - I would hardly have guessed that you had only been shooting 6 months from your photos.
